☀️🌡️ BELGIAN BEACH RUGBY HEAT ADVISORY 🌡️☀️

This weekend's tournament is set to be a hot one, with temperatures expected to reach around 34°C. We want everyone to enjoy the day safely, so please take the heat seriously and look after yourself and your teammates.

🏖️ Before and during the tournament:
✅ Drink water regularly throughout the day, not only when you feel thirsty.
✅ Apply sunscreen before arriving and reapply regularly.
✅ Bring sunglasses and a hat/cap for when you're not playing.
✅ Wear light, breathable clothing between games.
✅ Take advantage of the shade whenever possible.

💧 Hydration
Fresh drinking water will be available throughout the tournament from a Farys water tap.
Please bring your own reusable water bottle so you can refill it throughout the day.
Drink regularly throughout the day, not only when you feel thirsty. Start hydrating before you arrive and continue drinking between games. Consider bringing electrolyte drinks or tablets, especially if you are playing multiple matches.

⚠️ Know the signs of dehydration and heat exhaustion
Watch out for:
  • Excessive thirst
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Muscle cramps
  • Unusual fatigue
  • Confusion or difficulty concentrating

If you experience any of these symptoms:
➡️ Stop playing immediately
➡️ Move into the shade
➡️ Drink water
➡️ Cool down
➡️ Inform a teammate or organiser

🤝 Look after each other
Keep an eye on your teammates. If someone looks unwell, dizzy, confused, or unusually tired, don't ignore it. Check on them and alert an organiser if needed.

🌴 Shade & Cooling Down
We will provide a 10x15m shade tent, but with the expected temperatures we strongly encourage teams and players to bring their own shade where possible (beach tents, umbrellas, shelters, etc.). There will be a lot of people on site and we can only provide so much shade.
Make use of any available shade between matches and avoid spending long periods in direct sunlight when you're not playing.

🍺 Alcohol
Please drink responsibly. Alcohol significantly increases dehydration and can make heat-related illnesses much more likely, especially between games.

🌊 Cooling off in the sea
The sea can be a great way to cool down. However, due to strong currents, please do not go in deeper than just above knee height. Safety first.

🏄 Surfers in the water
Our playing area is shared with surfers. Please be aware of their presence at all times and respect the shared beach environment.

👣 Don't forget the sand
The sand can become extremely hot during the afternoon. Wear footwear whenever possible between matches to avoid burns and reduce heat stress.

🚑 First Aid & Safety Measures
A first aid post will be available throughout the tournament. However, with the expected heat and the number of participants, medical and first aid resources may come under increased pressure.
Please do not wait until you feel seriously unwell before taking action. If you notice signs of dehydration, heat exhaustion, or any other health concerns in yourself or someone else, seek shade, cool down, hydrate, and inform an organiser as soon as possible.

🌡️ We Will Continue Monitoring Conditions
The organisation will closely monitor weather conditions and player welfare throughout the day.
Additional heat-mitigation measures may be introduced if necessary, including extra water breaks, schedule adjustments, or reduced playing times.
These decisions will be made with the health and safety of all participants, volunteers, and spectators in mind. We appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation.

❌ When in doubt, sit it out
Missing a few minutes of rugby is far better than risking a serious heat-related incident.

Let's make it a fantastic tournament and ensure everyone goes home with great memories—not heat exhaustion.
Stay hydrated, stay shaded, and take care of yourselves and each other! ☀️🏉
